Book Drops: "Food Matters" by Mark Bittman (rated 4 stars)

by Mark Bittman

Continuing my obsession with the food industry, I picked up Mark Bittman’s “Food Matters.” “Food Matters” is broken up into two parts, part 1 delves into clarifying things about the food industry, the USDA, and even into how inaccurate things, like the food pyramid, is. Bittman just presents the information and it is not as preachy or as slanted as other food industry writers. Part two presents recipes separated into breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

This guide to conscious eating does not seem as inaccessible as other books. I love Michael Pollan but sometimes I think it’s difficult to eat that way. Bittman talks about organics but basically tell you to diversify your food and eat more vegetables and fruits. Also moderate how much meat you eat and just be aware of what you are putting into your body.

I am slowly trying out his recipes as well as reading more of his column in the NYT’s. Definitely worth having in your kitchen.
