Games in the Library

Board Games for Teens

I was going through my SLJ newsletter and the "Board Games for Teens" caught my eye. Last year, we implemented a "games in the library day" but devoted it specifically for non-electronic games. Every Friday, one of our students, brings out the games at the beginning of the day. Some of the games Liz Danforth posted are pretty interesting and we will have to take a look at those next time we go game shopping. The key is that they can complete a game during a free period, which is 40 minutes here at the middle school.

It is a popular day and recently we got a request for it to be every day. We are a very busy library so I only want to imagine the insanity of that. So, we have it every Friday and that's it.

Some of the games we have:
Monopoly Deal
Uno
Scrabble Slam
Scrabble
Jenga (which can get a little noisy but not too bad)
Stratego (they love this game)
Bananagrams
Applettes
Pair of Pears
Othello
Life
Chess
Checkers
Risk
Mankala
