When I started in librarian school, all of my classmates, including myself, cringed at the thought of being a school librarian. I remember, Dr. Chu, stood in front of the orientation meeting and asked, "Does anyone want to be a school librarian?" No hands were raised but there were looks of fear and maybe even some of disgust. Why would you want that job? Kids? no job security? Kids?
After holding practically every position one can have in a library and archive, I became one. It is one of the most challenging positions I have ever had. I learn from my colleagues and my students. I have to constantly be up-to-date on what is going on outside the library field. I get to do what I love and I love what I do.
And I'm not just saying that. For the first time in my life, I actually really love my job or as we joke..my career.
So here's to you fellow School Librarians and Media Specialists! Cheers!
