Another good children’s/young adult fiction book from Carl Hiassen. A not-so-beloved teacher goes missing during a field trip to the Everglades. What happened to Ms. Starch? A teacher who has never missed a day of teaching all of sudden not coming in? All her actions after the field trip being completely out of character? Nick and Marta need to find out what happened.
It is a fun little mystery that again brings up themes of conservation, ecology and endangered species and taking care of the planet and wilderness areas.
Another added bonus is that Hiassen introduces readers to Edward Abbey and references “The Monkey Wrench Gang,” which I read last year for the first time.
If you liked “Hoot” and “Flush,” you will probably enjoy this one as well.
