Mary is caught in a world behind fences. Fences that protect the village from the creatures of the Forest of Hands and Teeth but also keep the villagers from ever leaving the safety of the village. The Guardians and the Sisterhood keep everyone secure and protected from the horrors beyond the fences. However, if you climb high enough, you can see beyond the village, what is past the fences? Is this the only village left like the Sisterhood says? What about the ocean and stories of the world before “the Return”?
One day the village is over run by the Unconsecrated, or zombies, and only a few of them make it to a secret path that seems to cut through the forest. Mary, her brother Jeb and his wife, Beth, the brothers, Harry and Travis, Cassandra (Mary’s best friend) and a little boy. Will this path protect them? Will it lead them to safety? Will it take them to the ocean, that Mary heard about during her childhood?
“The Forest of Hands and Teeth” is a good departure from all the stories of vampires out there. It is filled with exciting zombie attacks and escapes. There are moments where it slows or seems too repetitive but the zombies makes up for those moments.
